MALCOLM RIOS

My Crossfit journey started probably like most. I was sitting at home and watching ESPN when out of no where these extremely in shape men and women appeared. Thinking "wow! It would be great to look like that!." I continued watching them compete and later said to my self "haha never mind I would die if I did that." About a year and a half later! And countless talks with a buddy of mine who was a full on Crossfiter I just worked up enough courage to think about joining!. So after a few more weeks of "looking for a box" but really procrastinating. I ran across Elite Crossfit. It was the best decision I have ever made to join. It was a Sunday morning around 9:45 am and why I remember this. is because this is where my Life of being naive about fitness and my body died. And also because I would never for get a but kicking like that!. After that day I was hooked so I began the fundamentals with Coach Brenda (She a tough but loving cookie I must add) but due to some unfortunate personal situations I was forced to quit. More than a few months go by and all I could think about was Crossfit and all the great Coaches and People I met. I live close by so driving past everyday was hard. I felt like I failed and I let everyone down. And that's not me so I knew I had to come back. Remembering why I started Crossfit in the first place and just knowing how I am. It was an easy decision. I texted Brenda one day letting her know I want to come back and that I was sorry for letting her down. Thinking she would just ignore me and blow me off for quitting on her like how I did. I nervous about her reply. She replied in a way only Brenda knows how to reply a lets get to work then type attitude. She welcomed me back in with open arms and we took off right where we started. I have been doing Crossfit for about 6 months straight now and the knowledge I have learned from Brenda, Jeremy and all the other great coaches and athlete has been beyond amazing. Every day I'm learning more and more about how important correct movements, mobility and technique is. And that was something I didn't learn from all my years of football and "training." I played pop warner, middle school, high school and was even lucky enough to play college Ball. But with just 6 months of Crossfit at Elite I learned more about proper technique and mobility in 6 months than I have in 22 years of my life. I was taught to train but we trained to survive for 5 seconds maybe more but with being here at Elite I've been taught how to train for whatever life throws at me. They have help build the strength of my body and mind to never Quit and to keep moving. Coming to the Box is honestly the highlight of my day. To be able to hangout with a bunch of hard working and very dedicated people who uplift you! Is truly an experience that many do not get the chance to come by and for that I'm extremely blessed. I am very thankful for the time and knowledge that JT and all the coaches and athletes have given me. And I'm also thankful for being honored to Hold the title of athlete of the year for Elite Crossfit in Selma. It means a whole lot to me to know that my hard work hasn't gone unnoticed. Thank you JT, Brenda and Elite Crossfit for literally Changing my Life.
