I started my CrossFit journey in June 2012 but it really didn’t take off until February 2013 when I joined Elite. I fell in love with Elite right away because of the Coaching and the programming. It was just what I needed to get me the next level…and the next one, and the next one… Before CrossFit I was always in the Globo gym and everything I did was what was taught to me by my High School and College Football coaches. Once I started CrossFit and learned the right way to do fitness, I gained so much strength and confidence and became the fittest I’d ever been. CrossFit has also taught me a lot about nutrition which has given me a much healthier life to live and has drastically changed my lifestyle. There’s no way I’d ever go back to where I was before CrossFit; this is the way my body is supposed to feel…like I’m 20 years old again.

My first Coach at Elite was Jared and I credit mainly his knowledge for keeping me hooked on Elite at the beginning; but also his sense of humor…or was it the other way around? Elite has great coaches who know just how to push you and they will always do what’s right and best for you, even if it’s hard and uncomfortable. The Tuckers are great people and I really enjoy having the privilege of calling them Coach. I love the “Old School Mentality” of Elite.

In June 2013 I tore my bicep and was severely limited with what movements I could do. Clint and Emily gave me mobility work and alternate movements that I could perform so that I didn’t have to stop working out. They also encouraged me to not push myself too much and to be patient and give myself time to heal. If it weren’t for them, I would probably still be injured today and not making any progress. During my recovery I realized that I don’t have to be the best at everything, I just need to be better today than I was yesterday. This really helped alleviate a lot of self-induced pressure on myself. When I came back from my injury, I was a lot stronger mentally because I had gotten out of my own way and was free to just enjoy the CrossFit experience for what it was.

My favorite CrossFit movement is the Muscle Up because it was the hardest movement for me to get. And now, every time that I get a muscle up I’m like, “wow, I just did a muscle up!” I have such a sense of accomplishment when I look back at how much work I had to put in to get just one; and I love the challenge it brings when I look at how far I have to go to keep getting them. My favorite CrossFit workout is Murph. It has so many elements to it and I think most of them are in my wheelhouse; who doesn’t love a workout that that has thing they’re good at? My least favorite movement is Chest to Bar pull-ups and my least favorite workout is 14.5: burpees; need I say more?
